Forex Trading versus Working a Regular Job

If you are interested in embarking on a Forex trading career of your own, you may want to consider the both advantages and disadvantages of both trading currencies and working a regular job.

With Forex trading, you get a lot of freedom; you can work whenever and wherever you want, since the market for currencies open all day every business day and you can trade from your own home. You don't have a boss and you work self-employed.

By working a regular job, you will most likely get very little freedom; you will have set hours and most likely more hours to work. You will also have to travel to work, instead of working from home. With a regular job, you will of course also have a boss that you will have to take orders from.

You can probably now why Forex trading is seen to be a desirable job when self-employed, however there is an issue with security. It is just like any other business. By trading currencies for a living, you will be your own boss, which means that you will have to really work for your earnings. With a regular job, you get a set wage and that is guaranteed, provided that you don't get fired or made redundant.

So with Forex trading, your livelihood could be described as less secure. However, this disadvantage can be overcome by simply ensuring that you earn a good amount of money through your trading, before you quit your regular job and decide to trade full-time. Some days will be bad and some will be good; if you want to make sure that your livelihood is secure, don't quit your day job until you are consistently earning a solid amount of money.

There is also a huge amount of potential in Forex trading, which is another reason why trading currencies is better than working a regular job. As a Forex trader, you can literally make millions annually, which is obviously a lot more than what most bosses can provide their employees with. With a regular job, however hard you work, you will get the same wage unless you get pay rises which aren't too common. However the harder you work when it comes to Forex trading, the more you earn, most of the time. Of course this isn't all the case, but the people who work the hardest tend to get the luckiest.

In conclusion, as long as you get to a stage where you are profiting well and consistently, Forex trading has to be better than working a regular job full-time. With all the freedom, flexibility and potential, Forex trading has to come out on top when compared to working a regular job full-time. It may have its flaws, like the fact that it could mean less financial security since Forex traders don't get a set wage, but this is just like any other business. In order to make money, you need to take risks and as previously mentioned, it doesn't even have to be that risky as long as you don't quit your day job until you are making a substantial amount of money on a regular basis. There are some other minor flaws of Forex trading; it can get lonesome and boring, but these can also be overcome; by being self-employed you can take time off to spend with family and friends whenever you feel like it and some Forex brokers offer fun and enjoyable features that can prevent you from becoming bored of Forex trading.

Fibonacci Trading: Distractions

Alright, so today I had the chance to talk with a friend who is new to trading and we probably spent an hour just talking about the trading platform. As I've gotten into the educational side of this business this is something that I see happening over and over where there is more time spent on learning the platform than their is on actually learning the trading system. Now learning the trading platform is not the only distraction as we have so much more out there that it makes it really tough at times to focus.

It's important to understand that there are many other money making business' in this business and one of them is the technology side. So when you start to use a new platform believe that the company behind that trading platform have a team that are full-time working on new gadgets and tools for that platform. Now I've seen this as of recent with the ThinkOrSwim trading platform with all these new and great tools they've rolled out with for their clients. For me, I need to keep it as SIMPLE as possible and that goes along with the system of trading I teach.

Jesse Livermore back in the day was able to become a really successful trader without any of the technology we have today and you still have non-profitable traders. While you could spend days speculating as to why this is we can all agree that the amount of noise and distraction today (think CNBC, Twitter) definitely adds to time wasted and loss of focus.

When you get off topic, and it will happen, you have to consider how much of that time spent is actually helping you to become a better trader and to make money. Now, I'm not at all saying that taking some time to familiarize yourself with the trading platform is a bad thing, but keep it simple. Use the indicators you know and make sure you have the basics down, tune out the rest.

This goes the same with getting into online reading, especially today, with all the doom and gloom articles out there. I can't begin to tell you how many texts from friends or posts I see on Facebook about the economy that are really just a bad use of time. Really, you should be trading it, it's that simple. If you're a technical trader (like I am) reading about the core fundamentals of how Apple iPhones are produced is not in my interest and that is not a bad thing! You don't have to be an Economist or an MBA to be in this business you just need to be focused, work hard and keep it simple. Your concern should not be researching a hedge fund managers beginnings or whether Roubini thinks the world is going to implode, your concern should be on trading.

Of course, this is different if you are a big time money manager or an analyst getting paid to do such work but if you're like me you're an independent trader that needs to just trade. I say all of this having done it myself but just have been reminded today about it so hopefully this is a refresher to all of you new and veteran traders out there. How to Generate Income through Trading Currencies

Generating income through trading currencies is more than possible. All it takes is time, money and perseverance. In order to make money Forex trading, all you have to do is make decisions and put money on those decisions.

Forex traders make money by buying and selling currencies. When they buy into a currency, they expect the currency in question to rise in the future. If it does rise just like they predicted, they then sell off the currency that they previously bought into. This way they make a tidy profit. Similarly, Forex traders sell currencies that they believe will fall in value and make money when they do too.

There are numerous ways in which you can make money in the Forex market though. You can focus on technical analysis by focusing more on technical indicators, price charts, graphs etc. However, you can also focus on fundamental analysis to make money in the Forex market, which involves trading the news and so on. Forex traders also should have trading plans to follow and set strategies and systems, before they enter the markets for real.

This is how, in a nutshell, Forex traders make money. If you want to become a Forex trader and start making profitable trades, the first thing you should do right now is to open an account. This can be a demo account or a live account. If you choose to go straight into live trading in order to get used to investing for real and experiencing the emotions involved in trading, then it would be wise to start small. After your account is open, you can start placing orders.

Your first few trades may end up losing. Forex traders typically lose on their very first trade and this is where perseverance comes into play. The future Forex trading millionaires will not give up at this stage. If you decide that Forex trading is not for you at this point, then you should leave and move on. Just remember though, you will most likely not have a great time in the beginning, but if you stick at it you could be earning a nice income in the future.

Forex trading is actually more about hard work than anything. Before you even open your account, it would be a really good idea to really get to grips with the whole idea of trading currencies. You should at least enter the markets with a basic level of knowledge. Before you trade for real with live currencies, you should also get to grips with your Forex broker's trading platform. Different brokers will have slightly different trading platforms, so it is important to get used to yours early on before you start placing orders.

In conclusion, if you want to generate income through trading currencies, all you essentially need is a Forex trading account and some money. Once you're all set up, you are ready to start placing profitable trades. However, remember that it is not just a walk in the park and you will need to put some work into your Forex trading career if you want to succeed. Too many beginners don't bother to put in the effort required and end up not getting anywhere. Forex trading should be treated like a business and not simply a hobby or a pastime. Anything is possible though and if you stick with it, you could be financially free one day, simple through trading currencies.

Taking Action in Forex Trading

Taking action in Forex trading is important. You need to take action, or nothing will happen. You can't just sit there and hope that your account will grow on itself, because it just won't.

There are two situations in which Forex traders need to take action. The first is when they are just haven't yet started their careers and don't know whether or not to take the plunge. The second is when they know they should place a particular order, but don't want to due to their emotions.

Ultimately, to make money you need to take action. In order to make your dreams become a reality, you need to actually do something. In order to create success for yourself, you need to actively create it.

If you are just looking into Forex trading, you will probably know the basics and the concept, but don't know whether or not you should go for it. If Forex trading seems appealing to you, you should just go for it before you think twice. As soon as you give up on the idea of trading currencies for a living, you will just go after another idea and then another idea after that. Months could well pass and you would never make any progress, by just dismissing Forex trading altogether for whatever reason. You should first weigh up in your mind whether or not Forex trading is for you. Once you make your decision, you should take action, sign up for an account, get started and never look back.

When you are actually placing orders, you also need to take action. Of course you should not place orders left, right and center unless you feel strongly about each one. Forex traders should buy and sell currency pairs that they believe in. Forex traders should make decisions based on previous analysis and according to their tactics and strategies. However, sometimes Forex traders just can't seem to pull the trigger and many end up losing out this way. Again, never trade a particular currency pair at a particular time unless you are completely confident. However, don't lie to yourself and start letting your emotions take over. Try your best to trade without your emotions, because although they can help in some cases, emotions such as fear can really hold you back. If you have done the work and think you are onto something, make a move and take action.

If the trade fails, try to identify where you went wrong and persevere. If the trade is a success, try to identify how you managed to pull off the trade and aim to repeat and scale it up, with on-going testing.

As long as you don't deposit more money than you can afford to lose, your emotions probably won't affect you too much anyway, but still try to be emotionless when trading currencies, as they can strongly influence your trading behaviors and often not in a good way.

In conclusion, taking action in Forex trading is important. Right from the very beginning, you need to take action by choosing to open an account and get started. When you are in the Forex market trading with live currencies, Forex traders often back out at the last minute. They do this mainly because of their emotions. It is important for a Forex trader to trade without letting their emotions take hold. As long as you are taking a professional approach to Forex trading and putting the hours in, all you need to do is focus on taking action, reaching your goals and never looking back.

Forex Online Trading? How to Improve Your Forex Trading With Visualization Techniques

The Forex market is a market the traders cannot control. It is a market where the price is determined by demand and supply. The traders have to accept the market conditions and plan their trading strategies in connection to the market. In a market likes the Forex market the traders have to be in control over themselves.

Traders in control over themselves are traders who have set a plan for their trading. They have goals and want to achieve them. The goals are realistic, attainable and measurable and they trade in their "own best interest". In their mind they have been through all kinds of trading situations. An example could be how to stop a trade that is not a winning trade and how to accept that they have made a wrong decision.

Traders in control over themselves are human beings with discipline and a self-image that convince them that they are good traders. A self-image is a picture all human beings have of themselves in their mind. It is a picture that is built on experiences and beliefs in life. The image controls our behavior in all life situations.

A self-image is "how I am" and as it controls how we act in our lives it is import to affect our self-image to be successful in our lives and in Forex trading. A part of trading Forex is that some trades go wrong. Some traders just accept that they have made a wrong decision. Others will continue to think of themselves as a bad decision maker and start to fear that they will make bad decisions on future trades.

The different behavior in the mentioned situation illustrates the importance having a "leave past behind" attitude in Forex trading. The first group just continues trading and looks for new opportunities in the market. The second one starts to fear they are badly Forex traders. The two groups' picture of their behavior as a trader is clearly different and clearly that the first groups' attitude gives them better chances to be successful as they use their energy on the next trade and not that they made a bad decision.

The second groups' attitude can easily be changed. They have to use a visualization technique and visualize the situation where they made a wrong decision. The situation can be a real trade or a trade that is made up. It is important that the picture of the situation is as detailed as possible. The more detailed the picture is the easier it is to achieve the goal. In this example is the goal how to get a "leave past behind" attitude.

Using a visualization technique and go through the picture over and over and over again prevent you from making the same mistake again. The mentioned example of a visualization technique is just one example. The technique changes all kinds of bad habits and thought processes. Scientific experiments have shown that a bad habits and thought processes can be changed if the technique is used in 21 days in a row.

What Is Forex? An Introduction for Every Forex Beginner

So What is 'Forex'?

The word 'Forex' is simply a shortening of 'Foreign Exchange'. Forex trading is when traders buy and sell different currencies from one currency to another.

So, for example, if you were to buy the European currency (the Euro, EUR) with US Dollars (symbol USD), then you would be 'buying the Euro' and at the same time 'selling the US Dollar'. You would effectively be betting that the value of the Euro compared to the Dollar would increase to have any chance of receiving a profit. Another way of thinking about this trade is that you are going 'Long' on the EUR/USD.

Many people find this concept a little tricky to understand. Why would this particular trade be selling the Dollar? Well, if the Dollar were to drop in value compared to the Euro (remember that you have bought your Euros with US Dollars), then you would be able to buy back more Dollars than you started with, using the Euros which have become more valuable in relative terms. In other words, you would have profited from the decline of the Dollar.

Base and Quote Currencies

The first currency quoted in a currency pair is called the base currency and the second currency is called the quote currency. In the above example, the base currency is the Euro and the quote currency is the US Dollar.

So you may see a quote like this:

EUR/USD = 1.2288

This means that 1 Euro (the base currency) is presently worth 1.2288 US Dollars (the quote currency).

Forex traders usually place a trade through a broker who have direct access to the fx market via an associated partner in the Interbank Market. When you close out your trade, your broker will close the position with this partner and calculate the loss or gain on the trade, which is then applied to your brokerage account. These days, high speed communications and technologies which link all players in the FX market mean that trades can be opened and closed in a matter of seconds.

Forex Trade Example

Here's an example of a currency trade. Suppose you thought that the Euro was going to weaken compared to the US dollar in the coming weeks (note that forex traders can trade on timescales ranging from minutes to years). This time, going short on the EUR/USD assuming this belief turns out to be correct would be a smart move.

There are no 'shorting' restrictions in the forex market (unlike the stock market) so this trade would be very straight forward to place through your broker as long as you had the required deposit.

So the quote today might be:

EUR/USD = 1.2288

You think the Euro will decline in value against the USD, so you place a short order on this currency pair and purchase 1000 Euros. This costs you $1228.80 US Dollars.

The next week, the quote is now:

EUR/USD = 1.2008

1 Euro is now only worth $1.2008 US Dollars. Having shorted this currency pair (which is the same as going long on the USD/EUR opposite currency pair), you will have made a profit of $0.0280 x 1000 = $28.

Note, it is important to realize that your broker will take a brokerage fee from both placing the trade and closing out the trade, whether or not you make a profit.

Forex currency pairs are usually traded on futures markets such as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME).
